The APPT Phuket Open returned to Padel Phuket @ Blue Tree from 7 to 9 February 2025, with 125 teams listed on the organiser’s event page. APPT also recorded US$6,500 in prize money, placing another regional-tour weekend at a venue already familiar with tournament padel.
The event followed the APPT Bangkok Open held the previous weekend. For players considering the Thai calendar, the sequence put competitions in the capital and on Phuket close together, although each event had its own entries, categories and results.
A larger listed programme
The 125-team figure exceeded the 105 teams shown on the 2024 Thailand Open page for the same Phuket venue. The difference between the listings is 20 teams. That is a comparison of the organiser’s published event totals, rather than proof of an equivalent increase in unique players.
Multi-category events can count the same person in more than one competitive entry. Categories, withdrawals and the way a platform records partnerships can also influence the total. The figures remain useful when kept with the event and the unit in which they were published.
For participants, the scale of a tournament is experienced more directly through the draw. The number of opponents in a category, the route to later rounds and the quality of the matches determine the sporting task. A large overall programme can contain several differently sized competitions.
That is part of the attraction of an event combining levels. A strong professional draw and a closely contested amateur category can create compelling matches for different reasons. The shared venue allows those stories to unfold within one weekend without making their standards identical.
Familiar venue, unfamiliar opponents
Blue Tree’s regular players could approach the event with knowledge of the location, but that familiarity did not solve the opposition. A visiting pair can bring a style that is absent from normal weekly games, forcing a local partnership to adapt during the contest.
The adjustment often begins with observation. Which player prefers to take the middle ball? How readily does the pair follow a lob forward? Does it defend patiently or look for an early counterattack? Those questions become useful only when both partners recognise the answers and respond together.
For visitors, becoming comfortable with the venue is another part of the opening match. The most effective preparation allows the pair to settle into its shared patterns quickly, so that attention can stay on the opponents and the score rather than on unfamiliar surroundings.
The tournament environment also introduces continuity between matches. A pair that advances has another opponent to prepare for, and the lessons of one round may or may not apply to the next. Progress depends on preserving a reliable base while remaining willing to adjust.
One venue across several circuits
Blue Tree later hosted national-circuit and FIP competition as well. Its presence across those calendars shows a venue serving several layers of organised padel, with different organisers bringing their own event structures to the site.
For Phuket’s community, that can provide varied competitive reference points. A domestic circuit stop, a regional APPT event and a FIP tournament each offer a particular field and set of conditions. The same court setting can therefore host quite different sporting challenges over a season.
The February 2025 APPT Open belongs to that record through its own particulars: 7–9 February, Padel Phuket @ Blue Tree, a listed 125 teams and the organiser’s US$6,500 prize figure. Those details give the occasion a clear identity.
The players supplied the rest. Their entries became matches, their partnerships faced unfamiliar tests and the category draws produced their own routes towards a title. The weekend’s significance for Phuket is found in those competitive encounters, with the larger listed programme providing the setting in which they took place.
