Eli Nogueras and Joanna Tao Yee Tan won the women’s professional title at the APPT Pad Thai Grand Slam Bangkok, while Miguel González and Adrian Ronco took the men’s crown. The event ran from 15 to 18 January 2026 and opened the regional tour’s new season in the Thai capital.

Nogueras and Tan defeated Carla Serrano and Ceres Liñan 6–3, 6–4 in the women’s final. González and Ronco beat Fran Jurado and Sergio Icardo 6–2, 6–4 in the men’s title match, giving both headline finals a straight-sets finish.

A second title for the women’s champions

APPT described the Bangkok victory as Nogueras and Tan’s second title on the tour, following their success at the 2025 Bali Open. The result connected a previous championship with a strong opening to the new calendar.

The two finals belonged to different events and different points in the partnership’s season. A previous title can provide confidence and a shared reference, but the next draw still requires another sequence of wins. Bangkok gave the pair a fresh opportunity to demonstrate that their combination could complete a title run again.

Their final score records a successful finish in two sets. It does not need an invented account of turning points to establish the achievement: the pair won the opener, secured the second and closed the tournament with another trophy.

For supporters following the partnership, a second title also makes continuity visible. The names can be tracked from one event to another, with each result adding to the pair’s record rather than standing as an isolated successful weekend.

The men’s season starts with González and Ronco

González and Ronco’s 6–2, 6–4 win gave them the first men’s professional title of APPT’s 2026 season. Jurado and Icardo finished as runners-up, completing the other side of the final’s recorded result.

A season opener creates an early benchmark without deciding the months ahead. The winning pair leaves with a concrete result, while the other entrants have immediate information about the field and the demands of the new campaign.

For the champions, the task is to carry useful habits forward. A successful partnership still has to adjust to later opponents, different draws and changing match situations. The opening trophy records what worked in Bangkok; the rest of the calendar supplies new tests.

For the runners-up and other competitors, an early event also leaves room to respond. A difficult match can become a focused training objective, and another tournament provides a setting in which to apply the adjustment. That makes January a beginning rather than a complete verdict on a partnership’s year. The later calendar gives players further opportunities to build on a successful pattern or change one that opponents have exposed.

Thai success beyond the professional finals

APPT’s recap identified Nantarat Wattanpraneekul and Chattida Thimjapo as the amateur women’s champions. Their result gives Thai players a direct place in the event’s category story, alongside the international professional winners.

That is an important part of a multi-level tournament. Amateur titles are meaningful within their own fields, and the players pursuing them face the same basic need to work together under pressure. The programme contains several competitive stories rather than only one level worth following.

Pad Thai Padel supplied the venue, and the organiser listed US$13,000 in professional prize money across the men’s and women’s competitions. Those details framed a four-day event in which professional and amateur partnerships shared the wider tournament setting.

Bangkok’s opening Grand Slam left a clear set of results to begin the APPT year. Nogueras and Tan added another title to their partnership’s record, González and Ronco claimed the men’s trophy, and Wattanpraneekul and Thimjapo won the amateur women’s category. Together, those performances gave the capital’s season opener its sporting identity, with the players establishing the first results that later tournaments would build upon.
