Fadona Kusumawati and Fitriani Sabatini reached the first Asian Games women’s padel final on 2 October, beating the Philippines’ Danna Abad and Joshea Malazarte 6–0, 6–0 in Nagoya.
The Indonesian pair secured at least silver at Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center, with the gold-medal match still ahead.
Just two games conceded
Kusumawati and Sabatini had beaten Kuwait’s Mariam Alsarraj and Dalal Alqenaei 6–1, 6–0 in the last 16, then Japan’s Chifumi Sato and Kotomi Ozawa 6–0, 6–1 in the quarter-finals.
The semi-final extended their run to three played victories without dropping a set. Across those matches, they conceded only two games.
Abad and Malazarte arrived in the last four after a three-set quarter-final win over Iran. Friday’s defeat ended their challenge for gold.
Indonesia’s second chance
Novela Putria and Beatrice Gumulya gave Indonesia another route to the final, facing Japan’s Saki Tsukamoto and Kae Tokumoto in the other semi-final.
That result was still pending at the time of publication. Kusumawati and Sabatini had earned their place; whether their final opponents would be compatriots or the hosts remained the next question.
